NATURAL SYMPATHY ORCHESTRA - Stay Calm and Carry On (Op.1)
STEPHEN HARGREAVES - Keyboards, Synths, Drum Machine, Vocals Natural Sympathy Orchestra was formed in 2009 by the Yamaha SK50D Symphonic Ensemble and the Korg KR55B, both children of the 1970s, the pair have since joined forces with another 70s child, the Korg Poly Ensemble S. The orchestra's debut recording, Keep Calm and Carry On (Op.1) found the analogue army calling on the drumming of Matt Rideout (Yellow Wood,) the vocal chords of Nancy Drew (Citywide Vacuum, ASK, Luxury Christ) and the voice, button pushing, et cetera of Stephen Hargreaves (Folie ' Deux.) The Song: 1.] Keep Calm and Carry On (Op.1) draws its name form the 1939 propaganda poster produced by the British government. Lyrically quoting baroness Lady Hillingdon's views on sex and early sixth century philosopher Boethius the opus is made up of three parts. The uncertain and nervous lyrical opening references the relative calm following the Dunkirk evacuation, the aggressive middle section marks the Luftwaffe's attacks on London during the Battle of Britain complete with air raid sirens courtesy of the Mattel Bee Gees Rhythm Machine and Stylophone Morse-Code. Finally, the long outro builds in confidence and forum as Spitfire machine gun-esque snare fills are joined by a hopeful major counter-melody as the allies mark the first defeat of Hitler's military forces. 2.] beep, boop, boop, bleep, boop (repeat)
